cANNOT SEND EMAILS
« on: June 26, 2005, 04:30:16 AM »
Cannot send emails without first disabling Avast

Have Win XP + Sp2
Mozilla's Thunderbird V 1.0.2
Avast Home V 4.6
Celeron CPU 2.4 GHz
504 Mb RAM

Have entered the SMTP details in Avast - however my TBird
setting for my email senders address is only the prefix before
the @ ....
Do I have to insert the whole sender's email address ???
Help!!!

I'm using XP SP2 and Thunderbird 1.0.2 and sending SMTP mail on several accounts without problem.

Can you let us know:

what Firewall (if any) you are using - is it set to allow ashMaiSv.exe?

what error message are you seeing from Thunderbird indicating that mail cannot be sent?

:) I have seen many recommend using the FREE, but good
firewall(s) from either Sygate or Zone Alarm, then turning
OFF the SP2 not-very-good "firewall". Not knowing how long
you have had SP2 or Avast, perhaps the info at :
    www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,117990,pg,4,00.asp
may help !? There is also Microsoft MVPs available for
help in the XP SP2 forum at www.aumha.net .
