aswmbr infections found
« on: February 27, 2014, 02:13:56 AM »
Hi all,

I decided to check my home pc for rootkits after doing some reading about pc security.

I've used a bunch of different software in the hopes that something that would be missed by one app would be discovered by another.

I tried (kaspersky tdskiller, Malwarebytes anti rootkit, Sophos Virus Removal Tool, GMER - Rootkit Detector and Remover and aswmbr)

My home pc does not have an internet connection, so I could not download latest avast virus definitions, which is prompted when I start aswmbr.

aswMBR is the only one I tried that found things that it high lighted in red.

I've attached the log file, and hope that someone can advise me if its serious ?

Also, can I somehow use an internet connected pc to get avast virus definitions and place them somewhere on my home pc where the aswmbr software will detect and use them ?

There are no harmfull things at all in the log file.

As for your second question:
Download the latest vps, put it on a usb stick, cd or whatever you want and use it on that system.

Thanks for your input Eddy.

Its a relief that there are no problems. Why would the software display some items in red ?

The download page you linked has 3 download options, wondering which one I should use for awsmbr ?

avast! VPS update for version 2014
avast! VPS update for versions 5 to 8
avast! VPS update for version 4.8.0

Thanks.
