avast v8 won't update

Hello, I don't really like avast v9 so I like to use v8, downloaded it from oldapps.com
when I try to run a virus definition update, it takes forever.. stays on STEP 1/2 .... initializing, please wait

and tried to use manual update downloaded it from avast's site and on running it gives this error


avast v8.0.1489, Windows 7 SP1 32bit (latest updates)

Try to repair Avast and see if you still have problems with updating
