The update is now offficial (labelled as 4.6.691). No need to try any betas anymore. Thanks for anyone who helped testing. :)

Hi *,

here I'm again. An avast Home/Pro update is coming soon (my guess is in about 7-10 days) and as usual, it's my pleasure to announce the availability of a pre-release version of this update.

How to install it (for starters - most people already know this trick anyway ): simply download and run the following program: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/aswbeta.exe . That's about all it takes (provided you have the latest version of avast Home/Pro already installed, of course).

There is a number of fixes in this release and a couple of new features as well. These include enhancements in EXE unpackers (and all EXE unpackers are now supported in the boot-time scanner as well), fixes in WebShield (seldom crashes of ashWebSv.exe, malfunction of the "Save Link As" command in FireFox etc) and Inernet Mail (Calypso compatibility, news reading), added support for a couple of new P2P and IM programs (KCeasy, SIM, alTalk Messenger, Tlen), ability to suppress displaying of messages when playing games (as suggested by RejZoR) and many others...

Any comments on this release are welcome and appreciated!

Update July 8: a new beta refresh (4.6.689) has been uploaded

Thanks
Vlk

Now thats what i was talking about. Wicked cool ;D
Omg omg omg :o I love Alwil coz you guys actually listen to users!!!
Almost no need for AEC anymore hehe. Beautiful :)

Only "bug" i noticed is that when updated to beta version,i got this:

E:\My Documents\Virus Storage\*?:\Config.sys

My own Standard Shield exclusion was in the 7th line, but beta version "injected" another exclusion right into my own. I'm not sure if this is a bug which can be reproduced, but it got my attention...

Also some exclusion values are suppose to be hardcoded into avast!, but i see them (at least igor said that they are hardcoded (like C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\_AVAST4_\UNP*)

Ok,i just noticed that all exclusions are duplicated several times (4 times in my case!).

Seems everything's good. I've noticed some new settings "copied" from avast! external control tool.  ;D And new icons in resident settings! Nice!

I don't know about Standard Shield icon. I kinda liked old one more. This new one looks like it doesn't belong there, if you compare it with Network or Web Shield icons.

Vlk, will this new version include the fixes you gave me for the outbound email scanning upload speed issue (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13678.0)?

If not, will you be able to update the patch for me so it will work with the new version?

Thanks,
Harvey

Are there any changes related to the reported compatibility problems with ZoneAlarm Pro?

Seems not. To see all supported programs press customize on Instant messages provider.

Vlk,is there any chance you guys will impliment all On-Access icons with same style?
Web Shield and Network Shield look like they are not from the same program compared to new Standard Shield and other providers icons.

Also there is small graphical glitch in splash screen (the one before you enter Simple Interface)

Red marked edges look weird. Same was with official XP Luna, with Royal Theme and now with Studio 28 theme.
