Were you doing a scan when you got a notification, or were you surfing at the time and got a red pop up message?
If you were doing a scan when you got the notification, then as a precaution, I would put the files in the Virus Chest. You can submit it to Avast to be analyzed. You can then, perhaps several days later, rescan those files from the Virus Chest to see if they are still infected or not. If not, you can restore them or delete them...your choice.
Items in the Virus Chest are safe there, so you can leave them there until you know if they are safe to restore, delete, or keep them there because they are infected.
