How recover files avast decided were mallware and deleted?
« on: March 14, 2014, 10:37:50 PM »
Avast decided that some files were "mallware" and automatically deleted them immediately upon opening a folder with no prior warning. I disagree. I have changed my setting to ASK in the future but that doesn't help on the ones already deleted.

My Question: HOW CAN I RECOVER THOSE DELETED FILES?

Hope someone can help with this as they were important!

Thanks

The default action is not to "delete" but to "quarantine".

The files should be located in the "Quarantine (Virus Chest)" in Scan at the bottom right corner.

In Avast 2014 the standard is to decide automatically.

Are you sure they are not infected?
How do you know?
What files are they.....and location
What malware name did avast give the files?

Not in Virus Chest.

Yes I know there were not harmful files, I have accessed them many times before. One example - when I opened up one folder with a program in it (I had backed up earlier) I watched as the program exe disappeared before my eyes.

Numerous other program folders that I opened only contained a text file, everything else was gone!

Any other ideas on how to recover them?
