Why am I getting ads if I have a paid subscription?
« on: March 15, 2014, 09:35:45 PM »
If I have 60+ days left on my pro license, why am I getting pop up ads for Grimefighter? It just kind of turns me off from Avast if I pay and I still get ads. I am thinking about resubscribing but if this is going to keep happening then I don't know if I can put up with that.

I was also wondering what was going to be said about this. Since there is no reaction, I concur with your assessment of advertisements on pay software!

Also, the product is awesome, but MUST be custom installed to make the "perfect" install (you can change this after the fact from "Programs and Features", select avast!, select change, remove browser protection, grime fighter, and Software updater if you don't use it)

click next, and avast! will reconfigure.  Reboot when done!  This will take care of that advertisement!

Sincerely,

These ads pop-up whenever there is a vps update.

No I'm probably just going to uninstall and get something else. There has been a thread on here for about a week with the same issue with many replies and Avast doesn't seem to want to reply or fix anything. This shows how much they care. And I have had a few false positives in the past and a few things get by so meh.

Agree... time to be free from this, it's a sad day when you try to update your purchased subscription to antivirus & are presented with unwanted bloatware that is pre-ticked to install if you happen to miss it. If your AV host attempts to play sneaky tricks on you through their software are you going to continue to trust them??? No thanks.

Just wanted to update you all that I have not received any pop up ads for anything in the last week or so. The only pop ups are updates and things that are important.

I got that Grimefighter ad when I made the mistake of updating through the UI.  It installed the Grimefighter component automatically.  I was able to remove it via Windows control panel and subsequently de-selecting it during a custom install any time I upgrade.

I have a paid subscription and avast will not tell me how to install it on my new computer, as the last computer crashed.  Am I just out that money now??

You can disable update info in avast! > Settings > Update > Details > Show notification box after automatic updates.
