GrimeFighter changed computer for the worst
« on: March 22, 2014, 10:59:50 PM »
Hello. I use avast "paid" on my dell laptop windows 7.
I purchased & ran grimefighter for the first time on my pc and next thing I know all the text on my yahoo acct has changed, made all the desktop icons go away and my CorelDraw X6 program isn't operating correctly. I go to save artwork and now it wants to name files starting with a C: and then a capital W with a line going thru it, then the actual file name and then some more W's with lines going thru them......so I went ahead and saved one and the program crashed. What the heck Avast? Now what?
First, I've never had problems till now. Only reason I ran Grimefighter is cause a little Avast window would pop up and say there's a couple of things grimefighter can do to speed up my pc and clean up junk etc. So as a preventative maintenance, I bought it and ran it...!

I own a print shop and can't have this. We do have other computers with older versions of Corel but filters, properties, colors you name it, changes the artwork for customers saved in x6.  What do I do?
I know Corel...been using it for years but not that computer tech savy kinda guy. Don't even know where to begin. Can anyone shed some light. Please

Was a restore point created before Grimefighter made any changes ?
If so, return to that restore point.
Do you have an back up created prior to installing Grime fighter that can be restored ?
Does Grime fighter offer a way to undo the changes it has made ???

Grimefighter gave me and option to click on several buttons for changes before it rebooted. I didn't click on any of the buttons cause I don't know what... lkdfghu254t07892rghjefgo28475t254hg.. means. Maybe if it gave me a better understanding or at least words in English I would have known

I didn't realize I needed to create a restore point nor do I recall grimefighter giving me the option at the time. I just opened Avast and scrolled down to settings backup. I clicked on restore settings and then asking for a file name. "I don't know the file name" would you?  I also noticed that in documents, pics, os(c:), all the text has a capitalized W with a line going thru it. Guess I need to take it in to the computer tech. I can picture the conversation already.. :-(

WOW!  UnFreeking believable!  Ok I updated Avast. Once it did, immediately the easter egg minions went to work again....an hour later...Now everything is screwed up!
Again the icons on the desktop went away and the ones that remained have the CorelDraw icon. Even firefox & Avast has the Corel icon and when I click on it, Corel opens up. Now, Corel isn't even listed under programs anymore. It seems as if other things are missing as well. Where the hell did it all go?
Whats the saying... If it isn't broke don't fix it.  I added GrimeFighter for a extra security. Not this mess. >:(
