Parallels "Infections"
« on: April 06, 2014, 03:44:01 PM »
I've seen old threads on this topic but no clear ongoing recommendation.  I'm running Parallels 9 on Mavericks 10.9.2.  It seems that when I shut down Parallels I get an infection message.  Based on the previous threads, it seems that the consensus is that these are false positives and that I should exclude scanning .pvm.  Not being quite sure how to do that, I went to exclusions and excluded the Parallels application.  Is that the right thing?  I've attempted to attach a screen shot of the virus chest. I am running Windows antivirus software which has not detected anything in the Windows VM.  Thanks.

Looks like some infections inside a Windows VM running with Parallels Desktop.

Can you provide the full path of the infected files?
Windows 10 1909, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD, 1366 by 768 LCD Screen, Intel Core i3 5010U Dual Core, Intel HD Graphics 5500
HUAWEI P30 Pro. Android 10

I don't think so.  Windows antivirus does not detect this and I note in old posts that others have encountered this same phenomenon with Avast and Parallels.

Steven Winderlich:

I run into this almost every time I run a Windows app under Parallels 8. I don't get the infection message until after the Parallels VM is shut down. As with the OP I have run an anti-virus scan on the Windows VM and not found anything and, given that I don't use the Parallels VM for anything other than running a couple of well-known (to me) apps (Adobe Photoshop CS5, SNS-HDR and Corel's PaintShop Pro X6), it is hard to believe that there was any opportunity for the VM to get infected. I don't open emails in the VM and I don't browse.

I typically get the same two or three infection notifications and I can provide the paths to the files if you think that would help.

I am running Mavericks and Parallels 8. This is a bit of a pain and it would be nice if it could be sorted out.

Yes. I have 9.0 (41877).

I looked at the link you sent to me but I did not see anything that seems related to false virus reports from running Parallels. Or did I miss something?

No, just wanted to be sure you're on the latest version.

I ended up adding the Parallel folder to the Do Not Scan list and that seems to have removed the immediate issue. Of course it is a work-around, not a fix, and it would be nice if they would actually fix this problem.
