Check your definition folder.

Right click on the avast desktop icon>open file location>double click "defs">you will be able to see your vps updates.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply!
I have 2 folders: "14111301" and "14111301_stream", and 1 file: "aswdefs.ini" configuration settings file, which contains the same date:
Quote from: aswdefs.ini
[Definitions]
Latest=14111301
So, does it mean that avast has the files to perform an update? But it won't auto-update...

Just to be clear, if I check the settings I can see that "A new version of the program [2015.10.0.2208] is available!", and I can update manually - but I want it to occur automatically.

2208 is not technically a final release, it's a "special pack".
Once it becomes final you will get the auto update.
However, updates are spread over a couple of weeks so as not to over load the servers.
Don't forget there are over 220 million users receiving updates.

SP stands for Service Pack in this case, and not for Special Pack!
If you need read more about it here:
http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB89#idt_01
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=159528.0
But please don't mislead people!

In addition, this issue in an ongoing issue - so just waiting for an update interval won't do it because it is long overdue...
And to sum up, what about your question?
You asked about the def folder content, right?
Well, what's next?
Or you see for yourself that the content is there - but the program won't automatically update?

As I stated above program updates are spread out over time to prevent
over loading the servers.

Are your program settings correct?

Yep :-)
Not only they're correct, but also in addition I checked "My computer is permanently connected to the internet" as avast suggested here:
http://www.avast.com/no-no/faq.php?article=AVKB22
Quote from: avast themselves
... if your computer is permanently connected to the internet. This will optimize the way that Avast 2015 checks for new updates and make the update process more reliable.

Again, this issue is an ongoing issue for more than a few months!
It happened to me with various version on various computers.
Lets admit it = it won't happen automatically...

I admit nothing of the sort. Knowing that there are a miniscule number of users
who have encountered this issue, the auto-update feature does indeed function
as it should. If not try a repair...
Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click "avast">click "repair">reboot.

Yeah, well I'm familiar with this "solution".
I did it on my computer - and it updated only once. Since then I'm having the same issue...
I'm looking for another working solution.
Repair or uninstall and reinstall just won't do it...
