search protect- is it gone now?
« on: April 15, 2014, 01:45:58 PM »
I notice that my firefox was a bit strange, this morning, since my google tool-bar was gone and the new tool bar only seached on bing. The first site also when I started firefox was bing  :( I later discovered there was a unknown program installed on my computer called "search protect". I had no idea what that program was or where it came from, neither have I seen it before, so I deleted it using control panel, and now it gone. My firefox is back to normal. I googled on "search protect" and saw alot of people had problems with it even if the had uninstalled it.

To be on the safe side, I reset firefox. I'm running avast right now to see it something is infected. But now every thing seems back to normal? It seems too easy. I seen people on internet saying you could download a adwarescaner, but I don't trust downloading things, I don't want anymore malwares on my conputer?

*note
(I only had Search protector installed on my computer, no other program like "Conduit Toolbar" "BrotherSoft Extreme Toolbar"... or at least I can not find it.)

What is Search protector?
How do I know I got rid of it, or is it gone?
What can that program do to my computer?

Thank you for you help!  :)

Hi,

Let's check that. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool () by Farbar and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
