Grime_Fighter == Annoying and not Informative
« on: April 13, 2014, 09:00:02 PM »
can't believe I had to create an account to make a suggestion...
may as well toot my horn... heh

this is nice and all, but I'd like to know what exactly is bogging down my PC so I can stop it myself, and find and stop it's services from starting.
I use WinXP, so I'm free to do that and don't need some software to do it for me at a price I can't afford.

yea, I can't afford $20..
I can't afford $5...
I can't even afford 50 cents...
I can only afford free like the knowledge I can obtain.

Sorry if I sound a bit harsh,
you guys don't know what I go through when it comes to these issues... heh

but if there's anything that P's me off, it's a bribe from a decent free program.
(I'm not just talking about Avast here)

You didn't have to install it. It was an option.

Switch off the avastUI > Settings > Appearance > Community Features - 'Show avast! recommendation features' and you won't get the recommendations (not bribe, they aren't giving you any money).
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I am an idiot... sorry...
lemme fix that and change it to "offers".

I don't want to turn it off...
if I have something bogging down my compy, I just want to know what it is...
don't make me pay for something so you can clean it up for me. (thanks though and I trust it works well)

I'm more than capable of cleaning it up myself. :)

It isn't bogging down you computer, its an offer.

Forgive me if you ask for help or rant and are given a solution so you don't see such offers. Then subsequently say that "I don't want to turn it off..." What was the purpose of your post. I'm an avast user not employee trying to help other avast users, don't shoot the messenger.

Your system do what you like, turn it off or see other such offers.

ok, they're getting better, but they're still worthless as heck:

you'd think you could click on those bubbles to get technical info, but nope.

they suck so bad I had to write another post on a semi-old thread. :P

I entirely agree.

hey grime fighter, mind sharing YOUR OPINIONS with us nerds!??
you can't have control over my system unless you tell me what you want to clean up first.

I'm not gonna let you break something used by a program I use every day. >:/
(like most software that offers the same services does)

sure you're recommended and force-installed by Avast, but if you start doing crap,
you're just as good as the joke-ware MyCleanPC.

It is a message generated and sent to you by marketing because you have the following checked
in your settings:

I receive the same messages and GrimeFighter isn't installed because
1. It's not compatible with my OS Windows 8.1 upgrade
2. I always choose a costume install and only allow add-ons that I want.
If you need, help, please ask your questions.
If you wan to rant, Please start a blog and have a blast.

I could very much disagree with that...
people rant where they so please now a days...

if you want to enforce that, tell the admins to put it in bold when creating a thread. ;)

Topic Change... (original topic was kinda dumb)

so I've finally turned off GF's notifications yesterday, but guess what...

hey Avast, if you'd like a good suggestion, don't include crappy add-ware with your updates.

I still would like to know what exactly GF is reporting as "grime" as I use alot of free boot-time programs for:
- chat (Chatango Notifier, Skype)
- syncing data (BT Sync, Nitrous Desktop, G+ Auto Backup)
- development (Git Extensions, Tortise SVN)
- virtual desktops and environments (Virtua Win, SharpEnviro, Nvidia NView Desktop Manager)
- Security (other than Avast) (Comodo Firewall)
- Drivers (TB Riviera Control Panel, Nvidia Xtreme Tuner HD)
and many more... (can't recall EVERYTHING atm)

I also have alot of system settings that aren't exactly used...

if I could change those to get this GF Junk Ware to shut up, I will,
but I want to know what because I may be able to get my compy running a little faster with more organized startups.

it's a shame some people just have to be selfish jerks and keep all the valuable information and knowledge to themselves.

Avast devs, please remove GrimeFighter... all it will ever be is a pack of trash, as well as a problem causer to you guys.
