On our PC we use Windows Media Center to record and play TV shows. Over the past several months we have experienced a probelm when watching our recorded TV programs. The picture will suddenly freeze and break up into large blocks then struggle along in a jerky fashion for about 2 seconds then return to normal. The sound also cuts out or skips during this. The symptom recurs several times while watching a recorded one hour TV program.

Recently we had the Media Center window at half size, and noticed the Avast system tray icon revolving, i.e. it was actively scanning. On a hunch i changed the Avast setting to "Disable all shields". After that, our TV show played perfectly with no more glitches.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to prevent the glitchy picture without totally disabling Avast?
