Program Update Not Working?

Tried to update to the new Avast version from within Avast via Settings/Update. Didn't work.
Was able to update by downloading the new driver and installing over the older version. Has anyone experienced this?

What avast program version did you have when trying to update (9.0.2016, etc.) ?

Why didn't it work, e.g. what errors did you get ?

No error messages, nothing happened at all.

Same thing on my XP machine.

Do you have a firewall, if so what is it ?
Doest it allow instup.exe internet connection ?

Online Armor.
No issues with any other programs.

What should I look for in Online Armor?

The file asked if it allowed instup.exe (location C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup), which handles the avast update/install process.

If it does allow it, delete the entry for it in online armor and it should ask to connect allow it.

If that doesn't work then try an avast repair:
- repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 or later - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.
