Thanks, I think you did figure it out !    :)
Think I looked there b4, but the file, _140121AvastScan.txt. was so huge (333kb) it didnt open very quick (or at all) with Notepad (this time I used another txt reader program) and I might have closed it prematurely.
Thanks again for you patience & effort !

Hello akm,
It looks like you are using Win XP, right?
The path info I posted is for Win 7 64 Bit...
I THINK I figured out where Avast saves the "log/report" file you are looking for.
Look in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report
If you don't find .txt files there, look in <YOUR USERID>, rather than "All Users".
The "log/report" files are .txt files (for me)...
.
Ps:  Guess there is no other way to label this post as an answer, other than 'thumbs up' ?
Thanks again for your help! akm (W10, FireFox, Avast, PrivFirewall, MBAM)

Glad to hear you have it solved!
Thank you for asking the question that prompted me to try and figure this out.
I've seen the same issue, and just ignored it until now when I had time to dig into it...

Yea, notepad has "memory limitations" and some other program can often open a file that notepad can't.

The sad part of this is (You, I, or any user) should not have such a difficult time finding and seeing "History Logs and Reports".
IMHO Avast should allow a user to easily see reports and logs no matter what the OS version and Avast version ...

Even sadder, you're getting help from ME - no Avast expert by any means ...
You asked the question 2 days ago ... where is the Avast "expertise" ?

I'm following this thread, as I'm about to jump ship
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=149366.0

I don't know how to mark a thread as "solved" etc. in the Avast forum.
An Avast forum Admin would need to help with that.

akm can edit the subject in his first post starting the thread and put Solved-- in front of the subject.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Ive done that at other forums, but this subject title is 'character' maxed out.
Guess Im used to using MyBB forums, and they offer the 'icon option'.
But, not a problem, the 'thumbs up' should do the trick.   ;)

Yes, interesting 'debate'... appears a bit dramatic at times. ::)
And, Ive done the 'Chrome' install by mistake a few times.
Guess Im just not sure if there is anything out there better enough, to use free, without a bit of advertising to deal with ?

Yea, I understand.
I don't feel it's appropriate for me to suggest/advise competing AV products on the Avast forum.

I've been reading through the thread about suggestions for the next Avast (2015) version here
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=146141.0
Seems to me a lot of people have good suggestions about making the GUI easier to use and more useful...
Question is will Avast listen and what will they do ?
We'll see ...

If you ever do need tech help the best forum I've found is
http://www.sevenforums.com/

While that forum is for "Win 7", they will try to help with XP (or any OS) issues.
They also have a sister site that includes an XP sub-forum here
http://www.pchelpforum.com/

These sites have a lot of knowledgeable folks that are always willing to help (imho).

hth,
David

Thanks, Ill check them out.
Currently I use http://forums.majorgeeks.com/ for a lot of general help, when all else 'browsing' fails.
