You also stated that you're on line only for an hour per day.
When I said "If the system is connected for an hour daily", it was only an assumption instead of a real case. Anyway, thanks for your explanations.

The time your on-line isn't much of an issue, as soon as you go on-line you will get all of the streaming updates that have been issued since you went off-line.

To check this you only need to look at the creation time, if you get a large number issued at the same time, it is playing catch up.

My computer started at 6:04 PM, automatic update was completed at 6:05 PM.
Please see the screenshot below.
The 17 streaming updates received at 6:11 PM were issued when I was offline.
The 8 streaming updates received after 6:11 PM were issued when I was online.
The 17 streaming updates were not included in the automatic update completed at 6:05 PM.

Correct?

What automatic update ?

If you are talking about VPS updates, then it depends on two things, the VPS version and the streaming update version update, to say what is included or not.

My question is how do you know that they aren't included in the next VPS update ?

I see no way to gather that information. You can't see what signatures are included in the .bin files of the streaming updates and as and when included in a VPS update, that information can't be extracted, nor would there be any reference to streaming updates.

In the Update Settings, "Automatic update" is enabled by default. Does it refer to VPS updates?

Since it says Virus definitions, the answer is yes.

Yes it does, but it doesn't have anything to do with the streaming updates received and how you think that "The 17 streaming updates were not included in the automatic update completed at 6:05 PM."

The auto update includes any previously released streaming updates, up to the point that that VPS update was released. Which is why the versions numbers are crucial to indicate what would be included in the released VPS update.

The VPS update may be completed (Last update received) at a certain time, which is your system time; you have to look at the Release Date, time of the VPS, its version number and streaming update version (the sub-folder name), to get a better idea of what streaming updates may have been included.

What does "VPS" stand for?

how you think that "The 17 streaming updates were not included in the automatic update completed at 6:05 PM."
If they were included, there should be no need to receive them again after 6:05 PM.
They should be released after the release of the latest VPS update which was completed at 6:05 PM on my computer .
That's what I think.

What does "VPS" stand for?

A good guess would be Virus Pattern Signature/s ;)

Sorry that time in isolation is meaningless. Completed, if you mean when it was downloaded to your system, is going to be different to when Released by avast. The Released time will also determine what streaming updates would have been included.

You aren't receiving them again as such when the VPS is received, previous streaming updates are removed (relates to the streaming update version and latest) so they have to be incorporated into the new VPS. Otherwise you would have masses of streaming update sub-folders if they weren't incorporated and the streaming update sub-folders removed.

Thanks for your explanations.

The OP's automatic updates did not work but streaming updates did for six days.
Meanwhile, could he receive the streaming updates which should have been included in the automatic updates?

That question has already been answered more than once.

I have asked the above question only once but received no answer so far, why did you tell me to read previous answers? Actually I have already read all answers to me, and I failed to deduce an answer from them.
