The more useless junk you add to your software, the more users you will lose.
Would they care about losing free-version users?

Are you here to advertise their product ???
I read that it also comes bundled with a Toolbar so
why are you complaining about items in avast! ???
In avast! you can at least choose not to install the items you don't want. :)

Not at all. I only installed it on a few computers. The toolbar is easily avoided. Only problem I had was extreme resource usage when doing a scan on one of the computers. It clearly didn't like the config of this particular machine.

But that wasn't the point.

The point was bully boy Eddy's remark about everybody but him being daft when it comes to computers.  :o

More often than not on this forum, users with legitimate concerns get slagged off, misdirected, belittled and insulted by the worshipper brigade. If you really want to help then take off the rose-tinted ones. :)

Hi bioxx750,

Certainly not with the "worshipper brigade" as you call it , but long enough concerned with avast to know a little what I am talking about.
Any remarks about average users not being able to make the minimal custom install, you should ignore, as this certainly was not directed at you.
If you install on computers you always i.m.h.o. should make a custom install, you owe that to the owners of the machines,
that under best circumstances should make their preferences known to you.
Problems with particular computer configuration should be immediately reported to avast! so you won't meet with such problems in the future.

Well, I did a custom install with the online installer and still got a Dropbox install that took forever because I have a slow internet connection. There was no opt-in or opt-out. It just started installing. Then I had to go and uninstall something I did not want in the first place.  ::)

Download the offline installer from http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

Then you can uncheck unwanted items during installation.

I did download the online installer from avast's site and selected custom install. Dropbox was not part of the custom install, or is this a different online installer?

What I wrote is "offline installer" instead of "online installer".
They are different.

@Matthew_Wai,

That is a good suggestion. Glad we have you here  ;) .

@zorgon,

Read here why you have to be careful under all circumstances with which components to install, also considering dropbox, read:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144367.msg1049880#msg1049880

Also consider this tracking and how to block: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=49631.0 (cookies sent to 2o7 dot net).
I have a list subscription in ABP+ for "Fanboy's Enhanced Tracking List".  ;)

And yes the user is responsible for his own actions and and personal security preferences.
Those days that they would "think on behalf of you" are long, long gone and will not return soon.
It has become a "more intrusive" world around us. So be aware of your position always.

So welcome the fact that we can openly discuss these issues here at the avast! support forums.

Stay safe and secure both online and offline, is the wish of,

I have just installed the new version simply by clicking on "Update" in "Status".
After reboot, I unchecked "Dropbox", then everything except the program version remains unchanged.
