Avast makes my Action Center go wrong.
« on: May 16, 2014, 07:01:53 PM »
Hi, when I just updated avast, the action center said I wasn't protected... but I am! Avast shows that everything is good.. but the Action Center is CRAZY!
Action Center says avast! is turned off for virus protection plus anti-spyware.
I just want this problem to never happen again.
Somebody help me? :(
P.S. I know the solution, but it is a pain. The solution is to update avast! and bang! The problems are gone. But it is JUST a PAIN to wait for a update. Please release a new update that FIXES this problem. I am just sick of it.

This has been an issue with the action center for may years going back to the original Security Center and it doesn't just effect avast. For some reason the WMI instrument doesn't correctly record the status or the WMI gets corrupt.

For now try this to see if it resolves it:
- Stop all avast shields, answer yes to the avast self-defence
- right click the avast tray icon > avast! shields control > Disable for 10 minutes.
- don't wait 10 minutes, just restart the shields again.
Hopefully that will jump start the action center again.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I followed that, and then the action center just started spamming that there was virus protection issue, not, issue, not, spamming like that.

Make sure you have the latest version of avast. Maybe this video helps:

The real problem is the security/action center.
It is a bug in Windows that is there since XP.
Reset it.

This is still unresolved as far as I am concerned. Avast please fix this. It has been menacing me for months.

Workarounds are not a permanent solution. This needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, I see the blame being handed from avast! to Microsoft.

If this is really a Windows bug, avast! should report it to Microsoft. Also, I wonder why other AV software is not affected by this. If there was a convincing case that this is an Action Center bug, we could go to the TechNet forums and bring it up there.

The workarounds don't work all the time. In fact, none of them work as I type this.

It starts like this

And then there's two things that do not fix it
a) Disable for 10 minutes as suggested and enable again
b) Let Action Center fix it by clicking Turn on and update avast! Antivirus (I have had some success doing this but no more)

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64
avast Free Antivirus 2014.9.0.2018 (but has occurred in earlier versions as well)

Right. What I am going to do is report this issue to Microsoft, and I will post what they say. If they say that it isn't their issue, then it MUST be avast!. Or the AV world is a bit wrong.

You are wrong about this. Other av's (including MS own) have the same problem.
http://tinyurl.com/ofwu5xo
Look at the results and you will see that (about?) every av is mentioned.

- cmd
- NET STOP WINMGMT /Y
- REN %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\WBEM\REPOSITORY REP.OLD (may need to change the folder if you have a 64bit system)
- Reboot

or
- cmd
- winmgmt /verifyrepository
- winmgmt /salvagerepository
- reboot

I can't open my avast.

This is contradictory to your opening post. The issue is actually avast! seemingly running fine but Action Center reporting that it doesn't.

If you cannot open avast!, then these are two unrelated issues.
