Problems with configuring AVAST
« on: October 20, 2003, 12:54:00 PM »
Hi there hope someone here can help.

I am using Opera 7.20 and am on Windows XP, I have Kerio Firewall installed on my computer. I have had this problem while trying to set up AVAST to scan all incoming and outgoing Email messages through opera's email client M2. I have checked the box which asks me if I want to leave a message on the email to declare if its clean or not.  Here's a brief description

My incoming and outgoing mail servers are both mail.domain.com..

So when I go to change the ini file..there is nothing to change to for instance

it now looks like this
DefaultPopServer=mail.rashidabdullah.com
DefaultSmtpServer=mail.rashidabdullah.com

The AVAST help file says:
Replace smtp.server.com by the address of the SMTP server you are using, which is what it is now..

And when I leave it alone and go and change the settings in the "manage accounts" area to name#domain.com from name@domain.com and change the server to 107.0.0.1 i get a returned ERR Authorization message and it prompts me to enter a password..I can't seem to get AVAST configured, what can I do?

And my host providers don't seem to have a clue either. Can someone please help me, thanks.

Your username should be changed to name@domain.com#mail.rashidabdullah.com.
Here is an example: http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1097;start=msg6056#msg6056

Hi there thanks for the help, but I am still having some problems after making the changes you suggested, but

When I go to the mail protection
wizard and ty and set it up manually, the choices are still, Mozilla, Outlook  but Opera is not there..

When I send an email to myself with the option to declare whether the mail is safe there is no indication in the
mail. I was wondering what I was doing wrong, is there anything I could have left out
