avast! 9.0 BETA 2 now available
« on: June 24, 2014, 04:40:35 PM »
Please note we have just made avast! 9.0 Beta 2 available for download.
You can find it here:

http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/beta/avast_free_9beta2.dmg

Minimal supported OS X version is 10.6.8.
It is already compatible with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) preview 2.

Notable changes since 9.0 beta 1:
  • Added command "Scan with Avast!" into Finder's context menu
  • Many minor fixes

Notable changes since 8.x:
  • New main UI
  • Preferences has moved from System Preferences into the main application (menu Avast > Preferences)
  • New major versions of browser avast! Online Security plugins bundled.
  • No user registration required.
  • Many structural changes and fixes under the hood for higher stability and performance.
  • Complete support for 64bits. (In version 8.0 the antivirus engine was still running as 32bit for historical reasons.)

Notes:
  • The beta shall update automatically to the final release build as soon as we release it.
  • Remember it is beta. There still may be bugs.

Fell free to test and discuss any issues you encounter here on the forum.

Since there is no update/check for updates option in beta 1, what is the correct procedure to update from beta 1 to beta 2? Does it require uninstall of beta 1?

I noticed some gmail emails where missing in Mail.app, that were present when accessing via webmail, however new mails were arriving normally, synchronizing the gmail account didn't do anything, quitting and relaunching Mail.app, didn't either. But, when I turned off the Mail Shield and restarted Mail.app once again the missing emails appeared.

Seems to be the same thing I reported here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=142090.msg1032048#msg1032048

OS X 10.9.3

Are there any related error messages in the system log? Could you provide us the problematic emails? (you can send them as an attachment to me, no need to post them here)

I noticed it scans "/Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/MBP-HD/2014-06-24-095821"

I'm not 100% sure, but this folder contains local backup. And one folder represents the current state, thus if Avast scan it, it would rescan the whole computer again.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this. Yes you have to reinstall it manually. Both betas will eventually update only to the final release when it is out.
