Apparently Avast blocks the App Store connection unless you disable Scan secure connections. Of course there is no hint that is what you need to do.

I think there needs to be a better method of allowing exceptions.

edit: I'm not sure what is going on now. If scan secure connections is enabled on my Late 2012 iMac running 10.9.3 I get this error when I choose updates in the App Store app.

The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)
On my new MBA running 10.10 I have no problem.

I thought the bold would be obvious enough.
The different OSX versions probably explain the different behaviour (Yosemite would be handling this in a different way).

well they obviously have different behaviors and yes, the versions are most likely why. my question was, since no doubt Avast 9.0 beta was developed before Yosemite why does it seem to work better on OSX 10.10  than on OSX 10.9.3 or below.

I was just trying to get Avast to install correctly in OSX 10.9.3 but I'll use something else.

This may be a little nitpicky, but can we get a higher resolution menubar icon for retina displays? Thanks!

I just installed this beta on my Macbook Pro with 10.9.4 preview.
Going to App Store works, but when clicking on Updates, I get:

"An error has occurred.
The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “swscan.apple.com” which could put your confidential information at risk."

And of course, there is no scanning for updates.

If I disable "Web Shield - Scan secured connections" then Updates works normally.

I was used to the settings panel in the System Preferences. Too bad it is not there. (It is just a minor detail)

Something is missing in avast, is how many file there is, just to help to know if there is still hours of scan needed of just a few. Of course this doesn't give precise idea of the time needed, but at least after 5 hours, we know if 70% of the files have been scanned or only 10%.

The scan seems to be much more faster. But still, 12 hours for 4'300'000 files (still not the end. I don't know how many files are left). Is it normal (macbook pro 2010, 2.53ghz)

Avast lost the connection to the engine. The scan was aborded after 17 hours. It scanned 6.5 millions files. (When I used avira, it scanned only 2-3 millions)

I have 550Go of files. 300Go movies + tv shows, 120 Go music + pictures. the rest are programs, doc and operating system.

I noticed it was scanning the "/Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/MBP-HD/2014-06-24-095821" for several hours.

Is it norma?
