Strange license key?
« on: October 21, 2003, 05:56:49 PM »
Hi guys, I just went through the Home Edition registration process and I received the following mail.
The problem is that the license key is very strange and not accepted by the Antivirus program. Any idea on what went wrong in the registration process?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

* This mail was sent to this address because it was filled in
* the registration form at http://www.avast.com/i_kat_207.php?lang=ENG
* If you got this mail by mistake, you may delete it immediately or forward
* this message to unregister@avast.com.

Dear customer,
You were successfully registered for using avast! 4 Home Edition antivirus
program. If you have installed older version (AVAST32), be so kind and download
and install the current version avast! 4 Home Edition (see below).

Your license key is

---------- cut here ----------
%1
---------- cut here ----------

The key is valid for home, personal and non-commercial use on Windows
workstation operating systems only!

Commercial versions of avast! can be found at http://www.avast.com/i_kat_1.html.

You can try our commercial (shareware) products (with the exception of avast!
BART CD) for 60 days free of charge.

You can buy avast! 4 Professional & other editions at ShareIt online shop at:
http://www.avast.com/i_kat_231.html.

Insert the license key into avast!4 this way:
1) If you didn't before, download the installation file of avast! 4 Home Edition
from the webpage http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1016.html
2) Double click the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen.
3) After installation you will be prompted to restart your computer - restart
it.
4) After restart you will see the blue a-ball icon in your system tray, near
clock.
5) Right-click the blue icon representing the resident protection (a) in system
tray and choose "About avast!", or in simple interface choose MENU -> ABOUT
AVAST!.
6) Press the "License key" button in lower right corner.
7) Enter the license key into prepared text field.
8) Press OK.

It is recommended to update your virus database and program via the iAVS service
to ensure the best protection:
Right-click the blue icon representing the resident protection (a) in system
tray and choose UPDATING -> PROGRAM UPDATE and iAVS UPDATE. To update virus
database only You can just click on the "flash" icon in simple user inter

If %1 is the actual code, than this is an incomplete registration number.
It should be a 26 character alpha/numeric code.

If you send an email to support@asw.cz, they will send you a correct code.  You still have the better part of 60 days before Avast stops updating.

You can also try to IM a Moderator when they are online and they may be able to expedite the code for you.
Unfortunately, I do not have access to them.

Good luck,
Techie

What is the problem, igor?
I think - from previous posts - there is another registration engine (compiled inside of avast!). Is this things related or this is just a webform failure sending the e-mail...  :-\

Registration engine compiled in avast  ???
In any case - when I was leaving for home, there was some problem with the web registration form; don't know anything else - maybe it's already working.

The problem was there only for about 2 hours - it should be fixed now.

Whoever got that strange %1 key, please reregister. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks
Vlk

Problem has been fixed, registration services did not send license key due to full buffer with e-mail text - there was no space for license key to be inserted.

Today's English registrations between 16:00 and 18:00 have been affected by this problem. To receive regular license key repeat registration, please.

I am sorry for this inconvience...

Just a webform failure sending the e-mail...  :-\

Thanks Vlk and Roman, as we can see it was related to the webform and not the avast! engine  :D

I received the exact same msg today, also. I registered and downloaded Avast on 10/21/03 and I have not been able to use Avast as of yet. Also, after installation of Avast and restarting my pc, I did not receive the logo in my taskbar; on my desktop, yes; taskbar, no.

Help! I need virus protection.

AHA,
vsj

I just re-registered, as suggested in this forum. I just received my answer from Avast. The msg stated that I was already registered for vps-info. Ooops, I just received my license key.

Other problem: 4Avast did not install the blue logo onto my taskbar and I am unable to open Avast by clicking (right or left) the blue logo on my desktop.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
vsj

What happens when you click the icon on your desktop? Nothing?

Are you able to run all your usual programs without any problems?

You can try to reinstall avast from the original setup to see if it helps...
