cpu usage
« on: July 18, 2005, 10:21:49 PM »
Sometimes 'ashServ.exe' will be using over 25% of cpu, for no reason at all causing many of my applications to become sluggish and i have a 1.8Ghz computer with 512mb ram.

I have, avast 4.6.691 (jully2005) release and I am using windows xp

EDIT: Also 'ashServ.exe' at startup also causes similar problems with lag and using over 25% of the cpu

ashServ.exe is the virus scanner. No wonder it sometimes uses some CPU, scanning is not trivial...
Generally, whenever the blue ball (the avast tray icon) is spinning, it is scanning something and hence, you can expect the CPU load to be non-zero..

Thanks

Thank you for the reply,

I realize that it is the scanner but the problem is that, the previous version of avast never did this. Which is why i find it strange. And yes, I have the same configurations (via the residential scanner) that I did before.
