AIS2014 Trial after months of AIS2013 expired
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:00:30 AM »
Just wanted to know if there is any way to trial the new AIS2014 for the 30 day period?  I can download and install the program fine but the trial license / server query changes my days from 30 to 0 immediately.  I used to have a 1 year license to AIS2013 that expired in April and have been using a different product since then (I did uninstall Avast and run the avast_clear tool at that time) but I want to return to Avast now.  I want to test the new version for compatibility with the programs I run now and can not get the trial to run at all.

Are old customers not allowed to try out newer versions of your product since we had a previous version installed at one time in the past?   :'(  Is there a different tool that needs to be run to clean the old license traces out?  ???

There are obviously measure in place to prevent people continually using the trial version.

So that may well be what you are bumping into; as for another tool to erase that record, I rather doubt that as it would mean the measure to prevent this would be pointless.

Remember if you purchase avast Internet Security, you have 30 days in which to seek a refund if it isn't compatible, etc. Other than this I don't know of any other means to get round this issue.

Have you considered trying the free version?  Yes, it doesn't have every feature, but you could get a good feel for the current version's operating characteristics.

What does the paid version offer that you feel you need?

Thanks for the replies. I understand the need for blocking continuous trial usage but different versions should actually let one try them out once.  As to trying the free version, it does not have a firewall, spam blocker / filter and has extra popups about the additional product offerings (which will interrupt the programs I need to check on so I know there is no reason to even install the Free version).

Shame as I actually wanted to see how much this version interferes with some malware scanners I work with.  And the search continues............

What malware scanners are you working with ?

The only real issue is with multiple resident AV scanners (which isn't recommended), the likes of MalwareBytes AntiMalware generally aren't an issue.

Malware Removal scanners (OTL, FRST and others along with some that I am working on myself); so, no nothing that is resident protection.  I know that Avast! is fine with most but with the newer modules in the 2014 / 2015 versions there may be some "side affects" that come into play; I need to know about that to do the work that I would like to do (volunteer Malware Removal).

I thought that Avast had changed their licensing scheme so that a user gets a trial of each version once and then you either buy a license or remove the product.  Kaspersky does this and so do others; you can trial the 2013 version (of any of their AV products [Antivirus, Internet Security or Premier {whatever it is called}] but once that trial is over you can not trial any of the other 2013 products; you have to purchase a license for the 2013 line product you want to use.  But a person could trial the 2014 version (until the trial period runs out on that version / product; then the same applies to the 2014 line products).
