Outlook express protection SMTP on port 25

The automatic protection Wizard is not able to protect the mail in exit: mistake 10048 already occupied for door 25.  In the Help one talks about cooperation with other software and about what which doing is necessary : what door must I set up? 28 is Ok? And in Outlook I must change the number of the door also in the advanced settings of the server? Thank you for any reply.

Please, give us more information about your OS...
Is your avast! updated?
Do you use any firewall? Do you use a Spam killer application?
Do you know which software is using the port 25?

My OS: win xp pro
Avast is updated. I don't use a firewall, and i don't use a spam killer. I don't know which application use the port 25.  Thank you

You should be OK using port 28.  Yes, you have to change the port Outlook uses as well.

If you want to know what is using port 25:
   1) Open a command window and type netstat -ano
   2) Look for an line containing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:25.  The number in the
       last column will be the process ID for the application using the port.
   3) Open Task Manager and select the Processes tab, click
       on the PID column to sort the list by process ID, and look for an
       entry with the PID shown by netstat.

Once you know what application is already using port 25, you may be able to configure it to use a different port.

Very good information, but could you define what you mean by any Command Line Window?  I am not familiar with the term as you use it.

I tried the netstat -ano in the Start/Run but all I get is a window flash of "attribute" codes and then the window closes.

I would like to try this function.

Search the Start Menu.  You'll find a shortcut labeled something like Command Prompt, DOS Prompt, or MSDOS.  The location and name depends upon which OS you are using and whether you've customized the menu, but by default I think you'll find it under Accessories.  Alternatively, you can type cmd.exe or command.com, depending again upon your OS, in the Run Box.
