Avast warning.
« on: July 16, 2014, 11:09:37 AM »
Why do I keep getting Avast warnings that IDM (InternetDownloadManager) is a malicious and unsafe Add On ?

Also, why keep plugging Google Chrome in updates ?

What do you mean by why keep plugging Google Chrome in updates?

I think he meant "suggesting"
Probably because it's a good, fast, secure browser and because Avast get's some money
when you act on their "suggestion"
I installed Chrome long before Avast suggested it's use. :)

If you select custom installation, you will have the choice to install Chrome (and other things) or no.

"suggesting" or "plugging" , I prefer my AV protection suites to be above that sort of commission fishing.
Having to restart the PC after some updates and unclick the box to make sure you don't get Google Chrome, is something paying customers shouldn't have to do.
I have tried Google Chrome in the past and consider Mozilla Firefox to be far superior and faster.

With regard to the IDM malicious item warning, it is clearly wrong, as IDM is not a malicious item.
I am no techie and get worried when  my AV protection starts appearing to be anything but perfect.

If you want a real fast browser, give Opera a try.
