I haven't used SpyBot S&D since version 1.6.2, and with resident modules disabled.  As that version was dated, I did try a more recent version on my WinXP machine and found it lacking.  It was uninstalled long ago.  There has been a recent release v2.4

Could you verify that none of the browsers that you have installed are set to use proxies?  A proxy could interfere with streaming and much more.

Hi, everything is bog standard as it came with w8.1
see

The pic shows FF IE and Chrome Internet settings.

Question: how does the stream from an ip address eg http://185.2.223.158/* get thru on the old version of Avast?

Thanks, that eliminates a proxy as a problem.  You may have to look to your ISP as the issue.

Hey guys, thanks for all your commenst and assistance.
I have tested with Spybot not loaded, same results.
As for the comments re my ISP, I fail to understand how that can be. You have a PC working and streaming, then you turn on webshield and it kills the stream, how can you even think about the ISP ?
Also we have several other devices on the same network W7 devices, tablets iphones etc, all work fine with netflix.

Conclusion that this is an AVAST! issue, another clue is when I put in the IP addresses that I can catch which Netflix is using (I have about 8 or so so far), the stream is staying on longer so it is those IP addresses which are being throttled. Surely there must be a way to detect a video stream in AVAST! and let it pass ....by the way I have same issues with iPlayer and other video streams. Maybe an AVAST technicians can explain how this works please.

Any other ideas welcome.
Frank

First, uninstall Spybot..!!

Then:
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Before uninstalling SpyBot S&D, be sure to remove it's immunizations first.

Spybot has always had Tea Timer which prevented changes being made to your system.
It may not be a separate part of the product any more but, is still there.

This is the same thing Tea Timer did.

No, it's not.  TeaTimer had nothing to do with the immunizations of SpyBot Search & Destroy.  The immunizations, once applied, are not an active running component.  TeaTimer was active part of SpyBot Search & Destroy thru version 1.6.2.  With version 2 and newer, TeaTimer no longer exists.

The Home version fxv300 has only has a SpyBot proxy resident, but he apparently has that disabled.  That leaves the immunizations which will remain when the program is removed unless the immunizations are removed first.

Once we finally get to the bottom of this blockage, we'll know what's causing it.
I highly doubt that it's avast! or I would have already been bombarded with
phone calls from my relatives who use both avast! an Netflix.

I highly doubt that Avast is the culprit, too.  I have no problem with Netflix streaming.  Avast Free and AIS both have the same antivirus components, so that rules out the antivirus as the problem.  That leaves some other issue than the Avast antivirus causing what seems to be Avast causing the problem.

fxv300, could you backup your Avast configuration and then reset back to Avast factory defaults?  If that doesn't clear it then you can restore your configuration.
