Update to sp3, then install the latest drivers for your board/soundcard.
That should work without a problem.

Depending on your motherboard, you should be able to put in more memory.
2x 512mb should be no problem at all.
Likely the board can handle 2x 1Gb.
Check the motherboards manual and see what is supported.
That "old" memory is really cheap nowadays and you will notice the difference.
Also if you have onboard graphics or a old graphics card, I recommend to put in a 512mb  (or more) AGP card.
That will really speed up things.
Something like a AH3450 card will work well.

If you don't have the motherboard manual and don't want to open your system to look,
This utillity can tell you what you have: http://downloads.ache.nl/aida3942.zip
Just extract the files in a seperate folder and run aida32.exe
If you want to remove the util, simply delete the folder and everything will be gone.

Interesting... New version od Avast does NOT detect it as a virus.. (And it is NOT a virus)..
So how does an OLD version of Avast detects it as a virus, when the old version of Avast uses the same antivirus definition sets?!? :/

Why would you think the old version should work as well as a newer version?  An increase in accuracy is to be expected, and that doesn't always mean more detections.  The Avast engineers DO act on false positive reports.
