Avasti! is a persistant Data Miner!!!!
« on: October 23, 2003, 06:39:25 AM »
www.lavasoft.com found 58 keys, files, cookies and other data on my computer, where Avasti! was sharing my habits with others!
Does anyone have any idea what this software is doing and how to "Opt-out"?
I was very disappointed as the software does a good virus check and disabling job, but it also does a terrific Data Mining operation too!
I'd appreciate a reply is anyone has any comments on this aspect of Avast!
It seems that the free "home-personal use" edition is designed to follow your 'surfing' habits and report back to headquarters!

I asked a similar question recently, not because I thought anything devious was going on... and I still don't. have a look here.

I was more than satisfied with the replies I received, both on the forum and in PM's.

I don't think you will find Avast sending any irrelavent info anywhere.

Hope you eventually agree as it is a very good a-v.

Good luck,
Walker

Thanks for your information re: "ping" necessities and I see now why Lavasoft found these files - BOTH doing their jobs, I guess!
I apologise for any implication and as I said I'm very satisfied with Avanti!
After reading some of the horror stories, I am happy that my download, installation, compatability are trouble-free and IE/Outlook/MS et al, are all cozily in bed with my Avanti!
I have absolutely no problems, no crashes, no freezes, no re-boots, in fact nothing to report.
Look forward to ver. 4.2

Great Condor,

Hope Avast serves you well... IMHO (and I'm not an employee  ;) ) it takes a hell of a lot of beating.

Good luck,
Walker.
