Avast causing slow launch of Network program
« on: July 21, 2014, 05:39:45 PM »
I have a program that is server based, and is running through a network share. I have icons on the desktop that point to the location of the program. With Avast installed, I notice a large difference in speed, i wouldnt say it takes forever, but it is certainly much longer than it would be if avast was not installed.

I also notice internet browsing to be slower than normal.

We are running windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit.  1 gig network cards and 100meg network cards, with various  2.5- 4.0 gigs of ram, notice pretty much the same effect on all machines. 64 bit 1.0 gb machines are a touch faster but still not as slick as I'd like them to be. 32 bit machines just dog, when I uninstall avast it, the program flies.

Any ideas? We're on the free version.

Is there a difference if you only disable webshield ?

And it seems that you are not entitled to use the free edition.

I don't know the answers but there are several threads where users are turning Avast off and find web browsing is as fast as it ever was. Turn on Avast and you can't go any where. I am one. Right now I have Avast on and my pc is going very slow. Sometimes I must have Avast off or i go no where at all.
