Causing Issues with Java
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:17:42 AM »
I love Avast, that's why I reinstall it every time. But it's really annoying when I need to update Java. I'm told that Java can't update unless Avast is closed and nothing has permission to do that from what I've found. Is there any way to exit it so my Java can update other than installing it? I tried simply disabling the shields but as many of you more advanced users probably know, that doesn't work. What can I do about this?

Only one other user mentioned having to close Avast so that he could install Java.  However I have not had to do this on multiple machines.

Are you downloading the file from the manufacturer's web site?  Make sure you disable the AV offered for free on the page prior to clicking download or you will end up with 2 AV's on your machine!

Are you using the Java Uninstaller Tool (available from the manufacturer's web site) to remove the old versions prior to installing the new version(s)? Reboot prior to installing the new versions.  Then install the new version(s) depending on your browser and reboot again.

I just updated all PCs to JAVA 7.67....no issues, no Avast warning.......plus, never seen one.
Also, as stated above get rid of old versions: http://java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml

Do note and take into account whether you actually require Java to be installed, many people think they have to have it installed but unless you have a particular software that requires it then most don't need it at all and I'd highly recommend you uninstall it from your system as java is a huge security hole on anyone's system who has it installed.

So the question is "nurseredheartfim" do you actually need/require Java?

If the uninstaller from Sun isn't working you can give this one a try:

Kind of.. I could live without it, so technically I don't need Java, but I do play Minecraft and that requires Java, so yeah. But so far this tool seems to be working. All I can hope for now is that I don't get the "Failed to create Java Virtual Machine" error now.

Thank you either way, everypony. ^^

Why don't you try the Flash Uninstaller from adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html - save it to your desktop since you will probably have to use it often (with every flash update).
