Dualism in update frequencies
« on: July 31, 2005, 03:38:47 PM »
Dear users,

Since January of this year it was decided by McAfee that there would be a difference in update frequencies of updates for the commercial user and the home user. Commercial users would get a better deal with daily updates, home users would not get daily updates automatically and therefore are not optimally protected.
Other AV firms followed this policy. See this article:
http://www.pcwelt.de/news/sicherheit/107774/index.html
If you cannot read the german, translate in with Babelfish, but everybody can read the statistics, and sure it does not look good for AVAST. Now I understand what it is all about, I want to be fully protected, I do not need a fresh re-install due to the vulnerability gap?

greets,

polonus

Those statistics don't mean a thing. You can bring out a 100 updates with only 1 signature added or just 1 update with 100 signatures.

Please bear in mind that avast! has never had a daily update policy.
The updates have always been done on an as needed basis.
This is why we've seen days in chich there have been several updates and there have also
been days when there haven't been any updates.

Theoretically avast! has multiple daily updates, at least it checks multiple times daily, during periods of high virus activity avast! has released multiple update in a day (depending on your update settings and connection type). If there is an update available you get it.

Personally I prefer this to any fixed time scale once a day or whatever.
