ERROR on scan results (87)
« on: August 07, 2014, 07:35:46 PM »
:-\ I'm using the latest version of Avast Free, Windows 8.1  My latest scan results report the error message below x 2:

File Name:   Disk \\?\...\{-} Boot Record
Status:        Error: The parameter is incorrect (87)

Could someone please help me understand what this means and is it detrimental to the use of my PC.  I'm not very computer savvy, so pretend you're speaking with a child when providing any type of direction.  Please use kind words also.  So many help boards blast you if you don't know the correct terminology or can't understand the "hardware" aspects of a PC.  Thanks so much in advance!

Run chkdsk on that system then try to scan again.
Windows Key and R opens the Run window

Notice, there is a space between chkdsk and /f

Run chkdsk on that system then try to scan again.

I ran the check disk twice, the process goes quite quickly but when it reaches the end Stage, the entire screen disappears.  I tried to get it back, or at least the results, but no way.  Don't forget I'm running the dreaded Windows 8.1!!!
