« on: July 29, 2005, 04:05:38 PM »

Safe XP allows users to quickly tweak various security and privacy related settings in XP.
The options include Media Player settings, Services settings (error reporting, time synch,
remote registry etc.), as well as and option to remove items from the Start menu,
network security settings and more.

Hi bob & RejZoR,

I have it installed at the workplace: http://www.theorica.net/
Have to wait and see, give a review of its workings in a while, and my settings.
It makes XP a lot safer. It is advisable to safe the original settings first through "'Save settings to file', left down under.

Bob, I've used some time ago. I'm donwloading the last version.
I think you need to know what options and what decisions you're taken.
You can restore back any setting but, again, you'll need to know what to change back.

Remember, I posted this back in July.

The post was as much for the benefit of those posting today considering this as they may also have avgas.

Off-Topic, I have had my second lock-up after an avgas scan, couldn't resume the standard shield provider or bring up task manager to resolve the lock-up, avast not responding. So avgas might not be long for this system ;D

Hi boys,

You're not cross with me for re-opening the thread, because we installed it at work, and I wanted the avast forum opinion on this one. Thanks for posting then, Bob,

Remember, I posted this back in July.
I've lost this info... I thought the thread was a recent one.

Anyway, David, what's better, AVGAS or Ewido? Can both be used at the same time? Any advantage on this?

Well AVG-anti-spyware is no more on my system and I'm back to ewido 4.0, you can't run both together avgas detects ewido and insists on an uninstalll before you can install. See my last post in the Ewiod No More topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23937.msg197425#msg197425.

Hi neal62,

Well I had a discussion with the IT sys admin, that does the malware sweeps on contract for us bi-monthly, and he mentioned the proggie and what it did for him privately. So I remarked; "This is my here folder, put it there on the XP Win Pro SP2 at the workplace. We created the settings together, which can be tweaked also in another manner in XP but needs quite some register tweaking and other things, one wants to avoid, and is not the advised thing for the n00bs to do, with this program it can be done without much ado, safe settings and off you fly. I stated it above that it is good policy to safe the settings you started out with. Another thing the program is not fully documented, in so far I have some searching to do, before I come up with a full review of the thingie for you and the others here. Have a nice Texas day, Neal, here in Holland autumn has started or "fall" as you Americans say so aptly, rather rainy and gusts of wind.

Hi Polonus,
Very good to learn about this program though. Glad your trying it out. I know you will let us know what the results from your testing are about this program. Yes, fall or autumn is happening here very slowly also. Have a great day and weekend.  :)

Update from what I initially thought to be a problem with the AVG Anti-Spyware, that seemed to also be replicated when I reverted to the Ewido incarnation. Now I find that the problem also happens after a scan with Spybot S&D and also after a scan with AdAware. It now seems that the problem is in fact with avast 4.7.892.

Well, I'm not David but I'll tell you my story. I was playing around with a sample of Warezof (or Stration) and got infected by mistake. Ewido detected some parts and said it cleaned them. I then istalled AVG AS and it found the same infections again - but this time it really did clean them. They say that they imported a new driver so that AVG AS cleans better than ewido - and I can say that it really does!
The 2 .dll's that neither of them found, have been taken care by the free edition of Security Task Manager (http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html).
