permanent warning for false alarm app?
« on: August 16, 2014, 03:55:44 PM »
Hello,

I could not find a solution using the search function, so I am posting it: Avast reports Textsecure as a Virus Scanner problem - now for more than one month. I updated everything, restarted everything and avast confirmed the false alarm - still the warning pops up. Even the protocol of the virus scanner does not have any entries.

Does anyone know a fix for this? Thank you for a short hint if this has been discussed before!  :-[

Regards
Peter

Can you submit the file to www.virustotal.com and post back the link to the results?
You can send the file (again) to www.avast.com/contact-form.php
I will alert the Virus Lab.

Thanks, Textsecure is an app - How to upload this to virustotal.com? I am using an unmodified/unrooted Xperia Z1 and do not know how to export an apk on this device.

I can use the feedback function in the Info section of Avast Mobile Security if this helps.

Thank you again for your help.

Sorry, I have missed that you're referring to mobile...
I think this is not the first time Textsecure is triggered as infected. Is it marked as PUP (potential unwanted program)?

I've installed, extracted the apk, checked. For sure a false positive: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/1d65b67d13546ac690816695ff82c66da2da293d862d279b3525319b7826b586/analysis/1408216494/

Strange. The latest AMS beta did not detect it as infected.

Thank you, sorry for my late answer, I was on vacations without internet. Yes, this is definitely a false positive. The thing is that even the scanner protocol does not show anything wrong / no hits / nothing. (=no PUP) And the warning comes back again and again.

I probably don't get it. Screenshot would be best I guess.

Did you use ignore last for any chance? You can always delete the data of the avast application (unfortunately you will lose the settings) and try to scan it again.
