Forgot to ask, is there a way to remove the version 8 of JRE that shows on Avast software updater? or is clicking on ignore updates for that particular program the only option for those who don't want to update till it's officially available?

Disable is the only choice if you don't want to download it.
Version 8 is an official release and unless you're using a version of Windows that isn't supported (XP)
you really don't need version 7 of Java.
As already explained, both versions are offered since version 8 doesn't support XP.
I've removed v7 and installed version 8 on my Win. 8.1 system.

FYI, there are particular applications that require Java and which don't yet work with JRE 8.

One such application is CollabNet Subversion Edge.  Granted, this is not something run by many folks, but it illustrates why two different versions of Java may be needed.

Hi folks so I decided to take my laptop to a library and get free wifi instead for me to wait tomorrow to download Java 8. So I went to library and installed Java 8 and everything installed OK.

I went to control panel and opened up Java 8 control panel. There's something wrong with it's GUI and letters and the about tab "the java symbol" doesn't match it properly. The letters even doesn't fit properly i.e. the main GUI and the ok button looks ugly. Java 7 the GUI and the ok button looked fine and it matched it properly. When you click the About button on Java 8 GUI the symbol of Java doesn't look nice as if it isn't fitting it properly.

Are there still needs to be some minor fixing and GUI fixings for Java 8?

I imagine I'll find out if I have such a case. I'm also pretty sure that v8 will be updated to fix those problems.
It makes no sense to have several versions on your system. It makes sense for Java to make the latest version work with all programs.
