aswRvrt.sys AGAIN - booting problems: can anyone help?
« on: August 25, 2014, 04:27:01 PM »
Hi, I am encountering the same serious problem many other members have had before. My Windows 7 64 OS simply won't start, not even in safe mode, it blocks at the infamous aswRvrt.sys file. I am using a ACER desktop and have Avast anti-virus installed. I already used the Avast rescue USB, with no effect. Attempts to repair or restore to previous points had no effect. Booting from the Windows 7 DVD again had no effect.
I already ran the RUFUS and FRST tools as ESSEXBOY instructed in many previous threads on the same topic. I include the txt file in this post.
I don't know what to do next but to completely reinstall my OS, which is rather drastic. So any form of help (from Essexboy or someone else) would me more than welcome.
Many thanks from a desperate newbie.

PS: as this is my first post EVER on a forum, please disregard or at least point out in a kind way any violation I might have made to forum-etiquette.

What happened prior to non-booting ?  Also do you have the same problem with all users logins ?

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

After running FRST fix, the normal boot gave the same result. I see the 'starting windows' screen for about 10 seconds and then a black screen with cursor.
I include the fixlog.txt.

Everything went fine before non-booting. Normal shut down the night before. Refusal to boot the next morning.
I noticed however that for about ten days, 'automatic windows update' didn't seem to work as it should. I still received regular Windows Defender updates but no windows updates. When I ran windows updates manually, I always got the message that the system needed to shut down first to install the updates (but I never noticed the installation actually happening, when restarting). And though Avast reported that Internet Explorer required updating, IE itself reported that everything was up to date.

I'm not sure I understand your question on all users logins. I never get to log in, the screen is black before I get to the accounts screen.

Thanks for your help.

Could you now try startup repair two or three times

First startup repair (boot from USB iso-file): Computer seems to be in a 'loop' when 'attempting repairs'. After ten minutes I got an error message  ('cannot repair this computer automatically)
Second startup repair (regular boot from HDD): 'no problems found' (but normal reboot again gave the black screen)
Third startup repair (boot from USB iso-file): disk errors were fixed. After restart, same result: black screen again
Fourth startup repair (boot from USB iso-file): same as first startup repair.

What shall I do next?

This will disable both Avast and Threatfire

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

Fixlog of FRST is attached to this post.
I tried a normal boot. I missed de 'starting windows' screen, but the black screen is still there.

... UNBELIEVABLE : as I am typing, after appr 3 minutes of black screen, I get the screen with the windows accounts!

Great job Essexboy!! What do I do next? Can I go on as if nothing has happened? I do not dare to strike a key without your approval.

Ok you are currently without Avast or threatfire So you will need to re-install/repair one of them to ensure your safety

Have you tried a reboot yet ?

I have done nothing yet. I have not even logged into my windows account yet.
So, first the reboot and than Avast? Or first (login and) install of Avast, followed by reboot?

Log into your account and then reboot to confirm that it is working properly

Also let me know if the boot is faster this time

Log in into my account is succesful, but with some alerts:
1. could not find module C:\windows\system32\nvspcap64.dll
2. could not start TomTomHomeRunner.exe because LPK.dll is missing
3. could not start EvernoteClipper.exe because LPK.dll is missing
4. could not start RAVCpl64.exe because DCIMAN32.dll is missing

Shut down and restart of computer is succesful, but again with appr 3 minutes of black screen

I tried to reinstall avast from a USB-stick with avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe: same error message. LPK.dll is missing.

OK run FRST from the desktop

In the search box type :

LPK.dll; nvspcap64.dll;DCIMAN32.dll

Then press search files

On completion there will be a search.txt please post that
