Avast problem with 64bit operating system.
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:54:54 PM »
Dear Sir,
I didnt wanted to start a new topic just to clarify few doubts but still its not going to be good to hijack someone else topic.
I was using Avast Free Antivirus 6.0.1203 for a very long time without much issues and kinda like it very much but due to some reason I had to changed my operating system to windows 7 64bit . Then the problem started. After the avast installation the computer fails to start. Even if it manages to boot, the desktop freezes and nothing can be done. SO MY QUESTION IS ...... Does this version (Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0.1203) does not support Windows 7 64bit operating system ?????  Do I need to download the 64bit version of avast free 6.0.1203 ??? If yes then please give me the download link for 64 bit version of avast.
System config: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit / Intel H61 mobo and i3 processor 3rd Gen. Latest drivers used.

Please dont ask me to upgrade to version 7/8/9 n all....  ::) ::)

Is there any serious reason to use that old version? Is not only new features but also the detection capabilities you're missing.
Serious, I can even remember how does version 6 looks like... It will be very difficult to get support on it, but you can try reinistalling it from scratch.

Actually avast 6 has served well and am very much satisfied with this version of avast. I previously tried version 7 and faced somes issues with internet so then I reverted back to version 6 and since then i never had a problem.
I understand that version 6 isnt supported anymore but kindly tel me does anybody else also faced same kinda issue with avast version 6 and windows 7 64bit.
Does anybody confirm that avast version 6 definitely supports windows 7 64bit and has worked on there computer???

Avast 6 is compatible with 64 bit systems but being that it's an unsupported old version it cant be guaranteed that it will work properly or protect you adequately.

Like you said at your 1st post atulsaxena when you upgraded your OS to Windows 7 and you installed Avast 6.0.1203 and then that's the time when your OS had issues starting up. My theory to this problem definitely will be incompatibility issues with Windows 7 and Avast 6.0.1203 and it can be something else as well. As users say that Avast 6.0.1203 is compatible with 64-bit systems and being that it's an unsupported old version and guarantee of safety is not guaranteed. As for personal experience goes, I have used many outdated antivirus software with a reasonable age of windows OS such as Windows XP and Vista and I have faced many difficulties and many issues which required many solutions to fixes and even reformat of OS.

Did you use the avast uninstall utility and the Avast Cleanup Tool to fix issues? What is the previous antivirus did you use before Avast! Run your previous antivirus uninstall utility/removal tool in safe mode. After that do this download this and run this tool in safe mode http://avast-removal-tool.com/ . This tool will remove versions of avast from version 4-7. After that download and run this tool in normal mode http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/. After you run this tool restart your computer manually and install the latest version of Avast 2014. Follow the instructions for installation and at the end it will do a quick start up scan. After that has been done. Restart your computer manually again. After that register your copy of Avast.

That's the way to install a new version of Avast.

Actually avast 6 has served well and am very much satisfied with this version of avast.
However satisified you WERE, your understanding of the reality of the world of malware is incomplete if you feel an old version of an antivirus program can remain sufficient.

There's a reason it's been updated to newer versions.  The threats are constantly changing!

A static version of anti-malware is not something you should just be "satisfied" with.
