Will Avast reboot computer after a full system scan?
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:19:16 PM »
Hi, I was wondering what happens after a full system scan. I started it last night and went to bed. When I woke up, it seems as if the computer rebooted as Avast was not up anymore, and the task manager states I have been up for 5 hours. According to event manager though, there was no power outage or blue screen to seem as if this reboot was unexpected. So does Avast actually restart after a scan (possibly to run a boot-time scan)? Also the scan history said it lasted for 1 hour and 57 minutes, bringing it to around 20-30 minutes before any new events are logged, making me think it went to a boot-time scan after a normal scan (I guess like how windows asks to restart and will if you don't press anything).

Thanks for the help and sorry for the long question, I just need to know if I rebooted unexpectedly.

Edit: After typing about the windows update thing, i realized that maybe it could have been windows update that restarted. Upon looking it turns out that updates WERE installed 13 minutes before the first event log, and that the settings were set to automatically install updates at 3 AM; so it would seem windows restarted itself. Still, I would like to know what happens at the end of a full system scan.

In theory, avast! schedules a power shutdown only, not a restart.

It can be the system booted after the shutdown if WOL (Wake On Lan) or something like that is enabled.

OK, so it must have been Windows Update. Thanks for the replies.
