Why is Avast trying to tell me that Google is a bad search engine?
« on: September 17, 2014, 05:16:42 AM »
I have trusted google for years.  I will always trust google.  I will never trust Bing.  I mean hell it is from Microsoft.  Who in the hell trusts Microsoft anymore?  Seriously?  That problem needs to be fixed.  I don't wish to support your advertised sites.

You are talking about the browser cleanup utility.
You can choose between Yahoo and Bing.
No-one is forcing you to use the util nor one of those two search engines.
You can always set your preferred search-engine in the browser.

And please post in the correct section next time:

@Eddy
Let's call a spade a spade. Avast is at fault not the customer for having to choose
not to install something check by default.
This is a long ongoing problem that's still not been addressed.

That could be considered an unpopular position around here, Bob.  You may be told to take Avast's "freemium" model and like it.

But hey, if our anti-malware software teaches us to be wary of Big Shiny Buttons, that's actually a Good Thing, right?   :D

Hate to say it, but everyone's doing it.  Aggressive software that has its own agenda is the norm in the twenty-teens.  Try to spot the link you have to take to set up Windows 8.1 with a local account for example...

Not quite but I'm not naming names.
It would certainly be nice if avast! would  be an exception to that rule.
For now, continue to use custom install whenever you install any program.

As far as I'm concerned this is the right forum to post this in.  I'm posting this about my Avast.  Which is Free.  So how do I stop the notifications of Avast telling me that Google is a bad search engine every time I open my internet?
