written memory error
« on: August 03, 2005, 02:34:16 PM »
Hi!
I've a french media center 2005 Xp.
I have some problems with avast.
All the avast*.exe have written error memory.
Avast is always saying at boot: "rpc error" but my rpc service is up and running.
He takes some times to connect and when it does, it crashes with all the written error memory.
I have two others computers and avast works fine on it. (one Xp pro English and one french media center 2005.)
Just have the problem on the Acer TravelMate 4050 laptop, and this is a brand new installation.

There is  the list of the curent app on it:
firefox, office 2003, thunderbird, mplayer classic, lsdemule, azureus, sunjava, adobe reader 7, netmiliter, no-ip.org, powerdvd, nero, partition magic, winamp 5, daemon-tools, msn messenger 7.
Only netlimiter starts at boot.
I put my apps list because usually this kind of errors is due to conflict with an other one.

Disable the other programs and try to repair (install again) avast. You must be connected to do it.

And what about your firewall, your spyware applications, startup ones (TeaTimer, PrevX, etc.).
The best things in life are free.

I tried several time to repair it, it doesn't work.
I found the problem. Avast is not compatible with sp2 on this computer.
I shutdowned the data protection system and it works.
But I think this is not a good solution to shutdown it.
Then the problem comes from the avast software.
I have no anti-spyware programs, the windows firewall is down, and I use a firewall based on unix inside my router.
The problem came when I installed office 2003, I did all the update. It changed nothing.
Then I remembered about the sp2 specifications.
I tried to put all the avast *.exe in the data protection exception list.
There was no change, then I shutdowned the execution of the data protection.

Avast definatly IS compatible with SP2

It is more likely a problem with one of the drivers for that lappy.

It's weird because before the new installation, avast works fine.
And the drivers are the same, and these are the official drivers from acer!
