winik notifications are driving me nuts
« on: August 06, 2005, 09:28:08 AM »
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l?gonui.exe
file:  winik
Win32:Adware-gen. [Adw]

I get at least 50 Avast! warnings per day for this Trojan/Adware problem.  I can't delete it, move it, etc.  It drives me insane.  Is there any way for me to safely get rid of this file?  Or, can I stop Avast! from recognizing it as a problem.  I've reported it a few times.  What else can I do?  I don't get the impression it is a serious problem, but it is a serious annoyance.

Go to www.security-ops.eu.tt and use Kaspersky Web Scanner,BitDefender and optionally Trend Micro. There must be some trojan downloader or something that recreates the file.

Kaspersky didn't pick it up as a problem.  Trend Micro didn't work either.  Any other suggestions?  I appreciate the help so far.

Have you tried scheduling a boot-time scan from within avast?

Files that can't be moved or deleted are generally in use, not to mention this is in one of the system folders (a common tactic of malware), so windows in its infinite wisdom protects it.

Browsing with admin rights also gives the virus/malware admin rights so it can create files in the system folders. Browsing with restricted rights will reduce the effectiveness of this type of malware.

ZM,

are you sure you did everything as instructed on the page I gave you?
Because that will take care of EVERY malware.

I am getting a Trojan message: "C\WINDOWS\system32\I?gonui.exe\[PECompact]"
When I try to put it in the chest, I get the message that the file can't be found.  Is this the same Trojan that you're discussing in this thread?
BTW, I clicked on THIS PAGE and received the error message that it can't be found.
