Buffer overrun terminating Avast
« on: August 06, 2005, 10:04:57 AM »
Hi,

Happen to stumble upon a website
http://www.cchess.com/indexcn.html

and found that it always shuts down avast with a message as the attached picture.

One of the html link points to a nopopup.php which look like the attached.

Checked the microsoft technet so far, but couldn't find a solution to stop the avast from terminating, would anyone who have the solution share with the rest on what's going on.

It's nothing isnide that TXT except one url to some CAB ffile which is a dead link anyway...
Looks like avast! reacts to that URL and detects it as Win32:Codbas-14 (on Jotti, only avast! detects it).
It's a false positive i belive...

But i'm not sure about buffer overrun though...

OK when I right click on the * nopopup[1].txt (0.46 KB - downloaded 6 times.) /open in new tab I receive the

following warning false positive possibly?? ???

I think I have worked this one out Probability that  Avast is detecting some of the Chinese characters as

suspisious Not to worry Avast did the trick once again and prevented the page form loading and

any malware form doing it's thing

Hi, all

Managed to resolved the problem, though not sure which is the actual solution.

I downloaded and install the MS patch 833987,
then reinstalled avast.

Anyone who encounter the similar may try likewise...
