Anyone here trying to use a non-Microsoft antivirus package with Windows 10 has made the assumption that a software package that's not likely had much testing with Windows 10 TP is somehow better than Microsoft's included anti-malware solution. 

Don't get me wrong, I personally believe Avast is a lot better protection than Microsoft's software on an OS for which it's supported, but that's just not what we have here.

Since there are more than 1 Million testers of Windows 10, I'm hoping it will not
be very long before Avast has a version ready for that OS. :)
Till then, I'll leave what's native to windows as it's protector.

i am running windows 10 on my laptop with avast and so far not had any problems with avast

Online installer should work but I have to warn that you will not be able to update or uninstall Avast. You would have to use avastclear from safe mode.
