Hi boys,

can all of you do the following?

1) On the command line, run 'ashbug /setuplog'
2) In the description window provide us with your handle here, link here, short description of the problem and a way how to reproduce it.

thanks,

Do u just need a copy of the setup log? I tried what u said but got error .  The Setup log is about 268KB , I could zip it and send it if u think it will help.

No, I need exactly what I wrote  ;) That means, run the program ashbug on command line with '/setuplog' parameter. It will gather all necessary info, pack it and send it to my address.

BTW: The error message mentioned in your log means that your computer can't resolve www.iavs.net name. Can you try to ping it?

Doh! Is your servers.def file completely empty? Ie. 0 bytes long?

Try to download http://www.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def, put it in your avast4\setup directory and try again.

Don't do that. Do what I wrote above, ie. send directly me (and my colleague) the complete listings generated via running 'ashbug /setuplog' command from commandline.

Maybe it's worth noting that you need to do it in the avast directory (i.e. CD to the avast directory first) as the ashBug.exe program is not "on the PATH"...

Oh I see; did you select SMTP or MAPI?
MAPI should work without any prerequisities, provided you have an e-mail client supporting this protocol installed and configured on the machine (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora and a couple of others).
For the SMTP to work, you'd first have to set up SMTP server name/port in avast's settings.

Thanks

Not sure if this will help at all, but for me it seems to be only the automatic updating that is giving me trouble, I manually updated virus definitions this morning without a hitch. Also manually checked 'program update' w/o any problem.

When I first log onto the internet is when I get an error saying that the server is down. I also checked my severs.def and everything is identical to the one that was linked to.

Not terribly tech savvy, but I'll try to send the log info a little later if I can.

 :o

Hey Guys! I solved the problem! Simply, you have to uninstall (by avast! option, not by Windows) Avast! and reinstall it!
All is ok now!

I think there is a problem with last Kerio Personal Firewall Beta release...Its filter is too hard!

I hope for Avast! testers solve the problem for ever...

Bye!  ;)

Yes, I was able to ping the addy above without a  problem. I did run ashbug but it would not send, Sorry. Somehow I can not seem to get the smtp setting correct it seems. I get errors when I run the test.
Window 98 for the record.
