This is an old HP Ellie book that started out on Windows Vista.
Unfortunately I needed to remove Avast before I was able to install the latest
Windows 10 preview build.

And could you install Avast after Windows upgrade? Does it work?

The link I posted from Microsoft explains that the third party AV problem still hasn't been solved.
This computer is currently only protected by Defender.  :'(

That was precisely why I made my post. Apparently still not Addressed by MS.
It's one way to increase their use of Defender.

Certainly MS has an opportunity to gain ground here; not by forcing you to use Defender, but by getting you to match their setup so they can abandon 3rd party consideration.
It's interesting to note that when the horrid Vista version hit the market and there were problems with Symantec antivirus, MS suggested removing it and using the MS antivirus. When viruses began to slip through the defenses and people demanded product improvement, MS support made a statement that MS is not a virus prevention company.

Microsoft is doing it again: Installing Junkware unwanted in the background and resetting the privacy settings once again.......

I'm set for Insider Preview Builds but am on the slow channel.
My system just updated to build 14965. At the moment, I'm not noticing any problems.
This didn't last very long. Problem browsing. Unable to open certain websites, problems with downloads.
System very unresponsive at times. I've taken the plunge and did a clean install I'm back on Windows 10 build 1607

Even using the slow option on Insider Preview Builds eventually ended up in an
update to a build not compatible with Avast. (Also not compatible with any other third party AV.)
Till Microsoft finally realizes that Defender isn't something many of us want to depend on, I'll stay with this build.
(I still have one older computer that's on the Fast track but it's only protected by Defender.)

Taking the plunge:

Unable to install the last update so I'm doing a clean install of Windows 10 but am keeping my personal stuff.

I have been watching this topic from afar for some time now in the unlikely event that I got a win10 system. Being a relatively new and reluctant windows 10 virgin, there is no way I would have joined the insider program. What I have seen of the insider program in these forums, Microsoft should be paying users.

Getting involved in beta testing is a serious issue and when that relates to your OS doubly so.
