This update messed up my sound settings. I don't like this new version so how can I switch back?
Why not fix the settings. Certainly not a reason to go through the Recovery process.

I tried to fix the sound settings but I can barely hear them.  Before this update I had to turn the sounds down because they were too loud.

Right click on the sound icon in the system tray and follow the suggested fix:

I've already done that but it didn't help. It asks if I want to install a different driver but I'm afraid to do that. My sounds are in my monitor.

Is the volume turned all the way up in both the settings and on the monitor itself ?

Can you hook up another speaker or a headset to make sure the problem isn't with the Monitor ???

Are there updated drivers available for your Monitor's sound system? If yes, update. (You can always roll them back)
If not, you'll need to make a decision. Try borrowing a set of cheap speakers just to test and narrow down the problem.
If you roll back, that's not really an answer but a short term alternative.

Absolutely no problems here with 2 machines al all.
Updates successful.
Nice update!

Edit: I also notice now there is 'downloads' listed in the "FRee up Space" in Storage setting.
Seems odd to include the downloads folder.
Wouldn't want to delete those files by accident, all your program setup .exe would be deleted ???

I updated the driver but that didn't change anything.  I can barely hear the sounds.

Unfortunately I'm not in front of your computer so I can't give any additional advice besides what's already been suggested.
You have no headphones that you can borrow ???
