All of my computers are Dell. I had a HP several years ago but didn't like it so took it back to Best By and got a refund. The legal steroids that are working.

I've been having so many issues with sound/audio after Win 10 updates it's comical at this point. Why would they program stuff to change the settings after updates?

Follow the advice posted to fix your sound problems. :) I've not had any. I also didn't loose any programs and I updated very early 10/2/2018. :)

Of interest is are the missing users files in Windows.old folder.  See attached below.  (Using TreeSize Free.)

While the upgrade did work flawlessly, not having access to files in the .old folder (they have been moved to the new installation) is of concern.  What this means is one cannot go to the Windows.old folder to recover missing files as they are not there.

Cheers.

Yesterday evening I chatted with some one on Microsoft support and told him the problems the fall creators update had caused.  A little after 7 a lady from Microsoft called me, of course she wasn't an American.  I told her the problems I was having with my computer so she told me how to fix it.  She told me to press the shift key and then to restart my computer so I did.  After it restarted I had to enter my windows password which  I did but it showed incorrect password.  Then she told me to do a system restore which I did but after it completed  my computer was even more messed up.  Long story short don't trust anyone from Microsoft.  A little later system restore saved all of my files and after that completed I restarted my computer with out any problems. I still have the fall creators update installed but that's fine with me.  I should get my new computer on Oct. 23rd.

Rant over.

You called Microsoft and wanted them to troubleshoot your computer problem.
Microsoft asked you to hold down the shift key while selecting restart. That brings up the following
window when the system restarts:

And you're saying that Microsoft doesn't know what they are doing?
How else can they troubleshoot except to bring up this screen.
Please don't knock Microsoft for wanting to help. The fact that your helper wasn't in this country is also
no reason to doubt that they are as qualified as any one in this country.
Remote help takes 2 people. The helper and the one having the problem.
Even someone very qualified can't help if the person seeking help can't follow their directions.

I posted a reply but it didn't show up so I won't try to post it again.

Edit

I did follow her directions.

Before I talked to this woman I chatted with a man, his name was  Hasmered.  He wanted to take control of my computer so I closed the chat.

He asked if he could remotely access your computer. Simply saying no, would have been good enough.
No sense arguing.

We did not argue.

Edit

Someone from Microsoft just called me but I didn't answer.  I don't want to talk to anyone from Microsoft ever again.  Message on voice mail was the same woman I talked to yesterday evening.  Will not return her call.

Sorry but I don't think that anything you've posted about your attempt at getting help from Microsoft
is anything any one else can use. Also not helpful or fair to those that you asked for help.
Enough from me on this topic.  :(

Coming in the next release of Windows 10 v. 1903

I've enjoyed that capability for a long time already by using a program called Everything.

<snip image>

Seems strange that these so called 'non security' updates would be issues out of the normal patch Tuesday updates.

I doubt that I will have anything to update since they are both MS Office 2013 updates and I don't have any MS Office version on my win10 system.  But I guess we will just have to see.
