Personally since upgrading to windows 10 I have found it more responsive than windows 8

Using start 8 also make the location of normal tasks easy to find :)

I find W10 very smooth and having both W8.1 and W10 side by side with relatively same configuration, it feels like W10 offers more :)
+1, other than a few bugs in the Edge browser relating to Java Script everything else is running great :)

The Bugs in MS EDGE for me are the most frustrating. IF they want to compete with other major Browsers I think Edge needs to be more user friendly and adaptive.
I'm sure it will get better sooner rather then later
F12 Developer tools highlights some of Edge's errors, It isn't matured yet but hopefully fixes are on the way.

Thank you bob3160 for this topic and your and others' help here.   ;D

Upgraded to Win 10 Home 64-bit from Win 7 Home Premium.  Total time:  52 minutes.  Checked for WU's and picked up two more:
  • KB3074678
  • KB3074686
as well as the original one installed with the upgrade:  KB3081424.  So there are three total so far, or am I missing something?  Have the .NET Framework 4.5.2 updates (3), and Visual C++ 2010 KB's for both x64 and x32.

Must say upgrading went pretty much without a hitch, except where user accounts had significant data inside.  These accounts, when updating, took a little longer than expected to complete.  Win 10 said as much.

Only real operational issue(s) seen so far are with Windows Shell Experience Host (non-responsive or hang), explorer.exe (hang and crash), Cortana (stalls and terminated by Windows), and Edge (unfinished product).

With WSEHost, it was impossible to enter the settings window to change the default from Edge to FF until several restarts seemed to clear up non-responsiveness.  Once this issue cleared up in each account I ran, I was able to enter settings and make the changes.

System indexing ongoing, maybe why this was an issue?  And why explorer.exe seemed to crash and hang?  Reliability Monitor shows 26 critical errors and counting in the above programs so far, not including Edge, which seems about right for an upgrade install.  But improving over time.

Edge is fast, but needs much work from what little I've seen of it.  Agree with schmidthouse here.  It does not work with Belarc Advisor; it only presents a dark screen where the system information should be; total lack of any content.  Interestingly, Belarc claims Win 10 is really Win 8.1 in FF.   :P

-Noted that Edge comes with Adobe Flash installed.

Any way to remove this?  (If this has been pointed out earlier, sorry, I've missed it somehow.)

Last time I upgraded was with Win 98SE, 17 years ago.  Didn't work out that well back then.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 1809 Avast Premier Security version 19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4793.541) UI version 1.0.415.  Current version is back to Avast Internet Security.

I still have a copy of Windows 98 SE Windows 95 and disks for Windows 3.1
Even have a desktop that still accepts the 3 1/2 inch floppies. :)

Edge still has some growing up to do but with some patience, it can be turned into something quite productive:

I think that's true and am impressed with the direction intended.
I only hope that advances are made sooner rather then later. :)

Since I'm not so paranoid, this isn't a tool I'll be using. :)

Btw I get the impression on different Fora I visit, that updates from Win 7 to Win 10 suffer with more problems, than those from Win 8.

Windows 8.1 seemed much more stable to me. Lately, I have been receiving an error while opening a pdf with the MS Reader app, an error at login showing something like group policy was unable to start, and random long boot times. Sometimes the computer will show the welcome screen in less than 20 seconds other times I wait for over a minute. I suppose it could be updating but it doesn't mention that it is. The only security is Avast Pro with Windows Firewall Control 4. Still has some weird stability issues that I didn't see in 8.1. I hate to say it, but kind of Vista-ish.
