Thanks @Bob3160.
I like to be an early adapter of W10.
But if it does NOT run 100% on my pc is there a rescue button to go back to W8.1 and downlaod/install W10 later?

Kind regards, Hermie

NO which is why I gave you the link to the video.
If you don't want to read this entire thread, at least look at the last 3 pages. :)

Now users are advised not to install Windows 10 a la default but be aware and pay ample attention to risky privacy settings. Go to Privacy Settings via Start > Settings > Privacy to change the default settings, please.

Standard all txt and spoken txt goes directly to Redmond so the personal assistent  MicrosoftContana could know to learn you better.
Also the content of your address list is uploaded to MS. Every visited webpage will be known to MS to be checked by SmartScreen Technology.
Windows 10 will let you share your Wifi passwords with friends from social networks.
Every program and app can read out your personal ad-ID.
The new browser Edge is going to show you personalized ads.
All your location history is continuously saved by the PC. The apps you will install will directly recognize who you are /name-picture.
So why there is no-one here in this thread who has questioned why Windows 10 is handed out completely free? MS certainly wants you and your new OS to be the MS and Bing product.
Not convinced yet, then read here:  http://articles.forensicfocus.com/2015/07/27/project-spartan-forensics/

I have windows 10 Pro installed on two systems. Neither of them has Bing as the search provider and Chrome is my default browser.
Never use the default options to install ANYTHING. This includes you OS. :)

I read somewhere that people who are using win 7 and win 8.1 home edition didn't have the option to choose a different browser

That pertained strictly to this addition: "Free "Windows 10 Home with Bing" Edition" Even on that edition, you may still use an alternate browser but you can't make that browser the default.

It varies from computer to computer. Set aside a few hours if you need to create the media and then do the install.
I haven't had a system actually upgrade using the Get Windows 10 method.

You can upgrade to the Home Edition for free and continue to use your Firefox as the default browser bt simply making the change after the upgrade has completed.
(See the video earlier in this thread)
If you want to upgrade to Pro, you'll need to purchase a license from MS.
You don't have the version that's restricted from changing the default browser. (Re-read my prior post.) :)

If windows 10 is going to copy chrome OS in many privacy aspects, then I think a chromebook would be leaner and meaner.
If the chrome OS would allow fashionable adblocking, the choice would be obvious. Chrome notebooks are ever so polular in Europe.
What are the differences actually between the two systems, and then why it is that not more youngsters will leave for linux where they own and decide on the OS and not the other way around  :o. Windows is addictive  ;D and not a lot of people can/will get away from it,
they all fear the transition. As I said with better privacy settings and adblocking choice Chrome would be the preferabl OS for me.

But that's a topic for a different discussion. This topic is all about Windows 10. :)

@Bob3160: Which edition to select: W10, W10KN, W10N or W10 single language?

Off-topic: I got a chromebook, it does the job very well.

Best regards, Hermie

Unless you want more than one language, W10 single language.
This a again is a user choice look up what the others version are and the answer should be simple. :)

Hi bob3160,

Yes and we can only properly discuss Windows 10 if we compare it to what else there is being positioned in the market.

I just sitting on a pile of magazines where I read about some handy step by step plan to migrate to Windows 10.
People on a "mini laptop" should wait or choose for another OS.
What the common user should be aware of?

1. How to install the upgrades.
2. Check on system demands.
3. Check peripherals and apps (printer, system software).
4. See what is running fine via the Compat Center.
5. Check support.
6. Cleanse software (delete certain incompatible proggies).
7. Take your original  folders, documents onto an external hard disk or pendrive, so you have all that was on the local machine.
8. Run CCleaner.
9, Make a list of all your licence-keys that the previous OS had.
10. Make system back-up. Minimal 16 GB.
11. Create a Microsoft account.
12. You are ready for take-of, so start.
13. Keep your old OS install  in a folder, called Windows.old. Reckon with minimal 15 GB.
14. Start - Clean-up Disk for previous Windows-install folders and Temp ones.

@Polonus thanks, yip, we need step for step instructions for "dummies" on how to upgrading to W10.

Interesting:
Just wonder, was W10 completely rewritten by MS?
Which program language was used?
Does W10 support multicore processors and graphic cards?

Kind regards, Hermie

Please do some reading on your own. All of these questions have already been given. Most of them in this thread.
